Free Me - Converting Vegetarian
keywords-Free Me by Goldfinger

This is why I've decided to become a vegetarian. I've always respected vegetarians for their strength and dedication. It's such a simple yet complicated concept that is not taken seriously enough.
I never could really imagine living the life I lead with no meat. I mean, I love my steak and my bacon. Too much sacrifice -I thought. I wouldn't make a difference -I thought. I love the idea, the moral value, and the over all attitude.. but I never thought I could do it.
A lot of other peoples' opinions, ethics, and attitudes are similar to my own. They care about the animals, but they just can't quit eating them. They were raised eating meat. How could they give up their hot dogs, or bacon, or salami, or .. any of their favourite meat dish.
I used to be that person.
I mean, I'm not a hardcore vegetarian, it's actually only been a couple days. Five whole days to be exact! I feel like it's a big accomplishment. I feel really good. The more you know about animal cruelty and torture, the less urge to chow some McDonalds.

ISP almost here
feminism in education.... government/civics/media literacy in education.... censorship in education... entertaining the masses...
I think I have a lot to work with... but how I'm going to present it is the thing.
I guess the final product would be an anthology of information ...
I want to perform some songs I've written, as well as poetry and rants. I'd also like to share some of my artwork, and give a brief history of the meaning behind each piece.
I really want to (hopefully) influence people (LIKE MYSELF) to be more involved in the world, and what i buy.

Feeling sick today, like everyday
What should I buy?
What should I wear?
What can I do?
to reflect my opinions of the world..
to reflect my feelings and respect of other nations, ethnicities, countries... and ourselves
-I say ourselves just because something is made in Canada, does not mean it's not made in a sweatshop. So many registered Canadians work in sweatshops in the middle of nowhere, so companies don't get caught treating their employees with neglect.
In fact, Street Cents, a report by a University professor in Toronto states that "the house next door" could infact be a sweatshop.... In Canada over 40,4000 women work at home sewing for large companies. The sweatshop 'pandemic' is so complicated that we cannot say don't wear ____. band ____.
we need to change the whole system. But HOW? I began to look more into this...
and many students have organizations and campaign against sweatshops.

I think I'll look more into this....

Ghost
The agenda has been blood stained,
Too routine lack of self-esteem,
My demeanor, imperative of change.
My contemplation extends.
My passion grows, my reactions explode,
I am reborn, as my wounds start to mend.
Enough suspending reality, denial escapes at last.
Enough sustaining duality, hatred a ghost of the past.
Ghost of the past, Ghost of the past
This time remorse will be hollowed.
Complete annihilation of strain,
My ignorant pride will be swallowed.
Too routine deposits of disorder
The agenda has been blood stained,
Too routine lack of self-esteem,
My demeanor, imperative of change.
Enough suspending reality, denial escapes at last.
Enough sustaining duality, hatred a ghost of the past.
Too routine, Too routine...
Ghost... of the past

Hating, Loving History.
Studying history develops our powers of thinking, and exercises the essential intellectual activity that humans need to understand the world. It teaches us who we are, and how we came to be. It also makes us question, criticize, and enables us to have an educated perspective of the world.
Canada's democracy is supposed to fundamentally teach our students to be well-informed, active citizens -to be able to organize, analyze and act on the world.... But is this 50 year old white washed history really the ONLY history that should be mandatory in the high school curriculum, in a developing multicultural nation?
I understand that the study of history (opposed to more contemporary concerns) will teach us cultural, political and social lessons "like no other" -but in the world of today, these contemporary concerns are affecting us now, and the information about these serious global issues remains in the news, on T.V and in movies. These "contemporary" concerns are affecting us today, and just may ruin us by tomorrow. I am seventeen years old, and the education system has taught me (practically) nothing about politics or economics.
And we're talking about lowering the voting age? NO THANK YOU! What have we left for all the drop outs? It's highly unlikely their interested in politics in the first place.
History is proved to be so important for our youth to learn, yet we have one mandatory credit, and half the students even get that credit. Many students aren't interested and end up taking an alternative course, and getting the history credit.
Something needs change here.... If history is so important, why aren't we teaching more of it?
"The voting age needs to be lowered" YEA RIGHT!

Miss G - and the Honourable Kathleen Wynne - please check out!
Now I know many of you have heard of the fantabulous Miss_G Project for Equity in Education and I was fortunate enough to take part in The Voices Behind the Stats: Students Talk About Safety and Equity in Education last Friday at the always cool and supportive YWCA in Toronto.
It was a forum welcoming the participation of students in Ontario to talk to the Minister of Education, the Honourable Kathleen Wynne, about their perspectives on safety and equity in education and share their ideas for improvement.
Students came together from all across the Greater Toronto Area, London, Ingersoll, and many places in between with one message:
STOP DISCRIMINATION NOW!
They WOW’d everyone with their boundless energy, incredible strength, and sheer determination to end all forms of oppression. They all spoke with such passion and eloquence to the Minister with their many, many solutions to advance young women’s rights for the betterment of society!
I am completely inspired and was moved to tears by these amazing young women. THESE are the experts we need to be listening to for positive change to be effected in schools across the country.
And how awesome is it that the Miss_G Project exists in the first place to make stuff like this happen?!!
The Ministry of Education had better watch out for these powerful young feminists who are ready to take on whatever injustice comes their way and will not take NO for an answer.
You GO GIRLS!!!
(oh and if you are a FACEBOOK user, show them some love on their space!)
The whole feminist crew on Friday!
